Shooting Golf with a Sony: Game Changer
Recently I had the opportunity to shoot behind the ropes at the 76th U.S. Open Women's Golf Championship for the Olympic Club. This would be my first gig in shooting a major sporting event since the Pandemic, where I could test my Sony alpha cameras for the first time.
All I can say is "game changer! The silent mode allowing me to shoot 10fps was mind-blowing! I was able to shoot what I want and when I wanted without interfering with the golfer. The dynamic range was spectacular, and the focusing was remarkable. This all said, shooting with the Sony Alpha A7R3, not known for sports photography.
The only issue I had was with the viewfinder. I had to trust the Histogram and metering mode as the viewfinder showed me it was not the end result. Of course, this could be because of user error. But with more use, I think I would ultimately get used to the system.
Here are my favorite images from the event. I also posted a whole gallery on my website.
